23/07/10 – Rat in Me Garden
Was enjoying a lovely play date tea with one of Jensen’s good buddies tonight. Here’s how the conversation went:
G: My nanny got stuck in the toilet when she was 10 and the fireman had to come
J: What toilet did she do?
G: ?
J: Was it a wee or a poo?
G: O Well, she needed a poo but everybody [...]

20/07/10 – Green Sun Cream
Theres an image….
I have been liberally slapping sun cream on to my two small fry for a few months now, and I only bothered to read the packet yesterday. Without being too much of a luddite scaremonger, I have been trying not put anything on my skin that I wouldn’t put in my mouth given that it all gets absorbed [...]

17/07/10 – Dragon Hunters
The children and I have been enjoying some new films recently and my favourite by a mile is Dragon Hunters. The animation is absolutely beautiful.
I was completely captivated from the opening credits. The story follows the trials of two ordinary dragon hunters who find themselves on an extraordinary quest. The action is edge-of-the-seat-exciting but neither of the [...]

22/06/10 – Toxic Childhood
I just finished reading this again – Toxic Childhood by Sue Palmer
Its a quick read and talks a lot of sense.
I think it has a deeply reassuring appeal for any parent/carer that is mildly nervous about the amount of telly their children watch, or feels a bit uncomfortable about child-centric marketing or the early sexualisation of our young girls. This book manages to explore these issues, [...]

21/06/10 – Birthday Pressure
My little boy turns 5 this September and I am already nervous about his birthday party….We are supposed to be sharing it this year with one of his friends. This should make it easier in theory, but in practice I am worried it will make for an escalation of ideas and no-one wanting to be a party [...]

17/06/10 – Outdoor Swimming
I remember a really lovely day when I was about 13. Me and three school friends found ourselves on a long walk to get from one of our houses to another for our tea and a sleep over.
Living in rural Wales it was across open fields and through woods and at one point we needed to cross [...]

12/06/10 – Beach Dreams
We are really lucky that we live in a town with volunteers and people that like to have a good time.
The combination of the two results in an annual festival called Beach Dreams where a marquis and stage miraculously appear at our local park and then bands, play, cake is eaten, people dance, parades are walked, flags are waved and most folk get [...]

11/06/10 – School
Jensen is due to start school in September.
To prepare him (me) for the change we are sending him there one day a week until the Summer holidays so he (I) can get used to the uniform (he looks SO grown up), the routine (“I like school mummy, but the lessons are hot and boring…”) and [...]

17/05/10 – Growing stuff
We have been given some courgette plants and a spaghetti squash plant by my green fingered MiL.
She is warmly dismissive of my ongoing assertion that I will kill them just by looking at them and I have resisted the donation for some time. Its one thing killing my own plants, it’s another thing entirely to [...]

17/04/10 – Wildlife
We have been enjoying some respite care at our in-laws house. The building work is still well and truly in progress (code for “it will NEVER” be finished”) and when my 2yo got to the stage where just the arrival of the builders in the morning led her to hysterical crying, the clutching of ears [...]
