29/08/10 – Its the end of the world as we know it….

for quite a lot of nature’ creatures…..thanks to mankind.
Just spent a really depressing hour reading the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.
I was led there by an article in the Guardian about orphaned chimpanzees in the Congo. Their parents are being killed for bush meat, and too small to have value in the same market, the [...]

28/08/10 – Retaileyes

I’m not sure this qualifies as green but it is a handy way of saving some cash and getting businesses to improve their performance.
Register as a secret shopper on Retaileyes and they will send you details of local businesses that require you to conduct stealth visits to check the service and quality of the output. [...]

27/08/10 – The Great British Bake Off

I am really enjoying the Masterchef replacement the BBC has come up with for Tuesday nights on BBC2. The Great British Bake Off
Ten bakers have been set the challenge of baking everything from bread to puddings in different British cities and they are gradually being whittled down to one champeen baker as the competition heats [...]

25/08/10 – Our Secondhand week

This week has seen many opporunties for recycling and re-using stuff that would otherwise have gone to landfill.
We were lucky enough to catch a big set of Ikea shelves on freecycle so now my office looks less like an explosion in a clothes factory and more like somewhere that stock is neatly stored and easily [...]

24/08/10 – Seeds of Change

Over the past century there has been a dramatic decline in the variety of fruit and veg available in England. Supermarkets are partly to blame but as we all know, they are driven by the consumer and we have allowed ourselves to become limited in our tastes…..As far back as medieval times the average Englishman was consuming [...]

22/08/10 – Made

I don’t normally blog about jewellery – not least because it is rare that I buy any as most of the things I really like are beyond my means.
Found this collection by Laura Bailey for a company called Made…Everything on the website is designed by someone high profile and then sourced and crafted in a fair trade [...]

21/08/10 – The Breastvest

I was looking at my wardrobe today and I am suffering from the 80/20 rule. I only wear 20% of my wardrobe but I wear it 80% of the time. There are many things in there that don’t fit me, don’t suit me, and lets face it, will never be worn again.
I still can’t quite [...]

20/08/10 – More excuses to shop…

Just found a lovely home ware site. The lady responsible is Anna Smith who worked as a design director and textile designer before she decided to put her expertise in to sourcing lovely products from all over the world.
She uses recycled packaging and makes sure her products are sourced ethically and made using fair-trade guidelines.
This [...]

16/08/10 – St Davids Cathedral, Pembrokeshire

Today we visited St David’s Cathedral, in the imaginatively named town of St Davids.
The stonework was amazing and the cathedral is set in a little green dip in the land, with perfectly manicured lawns (graveyards) and immaculate flower beds (memorials), it is very pretty whilst also being imposing…..
The highlight of the visit was the choir. [...]

15/08/10 – White Sands Beach

Went to a lovely beach today – White Sands Beach near St Davids. It was very busy but when the tide went out it lived up to its name beautifully. Here is a shots of my little surf chick in action…..
